Warren Crossett is an artist based in Melbourne, Australia. His work is often an ode to the past, with elements of the old masters, surrealism, and contemporary art. Often employing symbols and metaphors of contemporary existence. When depicting general subjects the philosophy of beauty in simple things is displayed. He began his career as an illustrator producing artwork for many different areas, from children’s books to national and international blue chip companies.
 
In late 2015 he moved his attention to fine artonly..His subject matter ranges from traditional portraiture, conceptual themes, and portraits with incorporated symbology, landscapes, some still life, private commissions and even abstract work. Largely self-taught he enjoys passing on his extensive technical knowledge through a small time fraction in the visual art department at Melbourne Polytechnic.

In 2015 he won the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, and since then has been a finalist in the Shirley Hannan National Portrait Award, a finalist in the National Portrait Gallery Award ‘The Darling Prize’, exhibited in the Salon De Refuses for the Wynne Prize as well as a finalist for the Doug Moran Prize in 2021 and a semi- finalist on 3 other occasions.

Finalists – 2021 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize

The finalists of the 2021 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, Australia’s richest art prize, have been revealed. Portraits of Hugh Mackay AO, Asher Keddie and Warren Ellis (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds) are amongst 30 artworks in the running for the $150,000 prize. The winner announcement will be made on 30th November 2021.

Semi-Finalist in the 2018 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize Announced

The Moran Arts Foundation has today announced the semi-finalists for the 2018 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize (DMNPP), with portraits of well-known Australians such as Troye Sivan, Asher Keddie, Carla Zampatti, Simon Tedeschi and Kate McClymont amongst the 128 semi-finalists. Other high profile sitters include Reg Mombassa, Noeline Brown, Edmund Capon AM OBE and Jane Caro, who appears twice in the semi-finalist selection. The DMNPP is celebrating its 30th Anniversary and remains Australia’s richest art prize with prize money of $180,000 including a $150,000 first prize.
Leading Australian artists such as Wendy Sharpe, Peter Smeeth, Vincent Fantauzzo, Lewis Miller and Rodney Pople are included in the list of semi-finalists, alongside recent DMNPP winners Megan Seres and Warren Crossett

Semi Finalists Announced – 2017 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize

Portraits of Australian identities such as Jack Charles, Warwick Thornton, Isla Fisher, Yassmin Abdel-Magied, Michael Gudinski, Pat Harry OAM, Erik Thomson, Adam Elliott, Ben Quilty, and Julian Assange are amongst the semi-finalists of this year’s Doug Moran National Portrait Prize. The Moran Prizes today announced that there are 200 semi-finalists, who are now one step closer to winning the $150,000 prize in October.
